Canon USA & Affiliates Engineer I (Cost Engineer) in Newport News, Virginia

Overview

Performs cost analysis (part and product level) to support planning of future products, monitor current product costs, and suggest target costs. Conducts research and investigation concerning the utilization of materials, methods, and processes in meeting cost objectives and quality specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cost study for part sourcing decision (Domestic or Foreign part sources). Calculates target cost for part sourcing decisions. Presents cost study results and recommendations to management.

  • Calculate Return on Investment for capital purchase items. Makes recommendations on how to improve ROI.

  • Review and analyze Bill of Materials for part cost opportunity. Conduct studies of material and manufacturing process for cost improvement opportunities and make recommendations.

  • Work as a part of a cross-functional team to achieve Company Cost improvement goals. Work with team members to provide engineering based cost solutions. Summarize and review total cost improvement effort. May coordinate cost improvement team activities.

  • Calculates and utilize manufacturing metrics (such as yield, uptime, utilization, shift configuration etc.) to identify cost improvement areas.

  • Gathers and analyzes manufacturing cost data (e.g., process rates, cycle time, materials, production quantity) from manufacturing accounting records, suppliers, and secondary sources to aid in cost estimation.

  • Enter, update and maintains cost information. Retrieves specific information as needed or requested.

  • May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 0-2 years’ experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication.

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Basic understanding of accounting and finance concepts desirable.

  • May have to work overtime and may be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.

  • Must be available for occasional business travel.
